Valerie Garr, MA
Valerie Garr is an Academic Advising Specialist in the College of Nursing Felton Student Success Center who advises BSN students. Valerie also coordinates the College’s Supplemental Instruction and NEST Tutoring Program, offering academic support to UI BSN and nursing interest students enrolled in high-risk core science foundation courses. In addition, Valerie is an Adjunct Assistant Professor who teaches and guest lectures in various health sciences courses. Her work prepares nursing students with the global skills necessary to care for different patient populations within complex health systems. Additionally, she provides faculty and staff with evidence-based resources to enhance teaching, curriculum development, advising, and service. Valerie is an alumnus of the UI earning both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Iowa. Valerie joined the College of Nursing in 2008 but has worked at the UI for 37 years.
