The University of Iowa College of Nursing defines diversity as creating an accessible, supportive environment for individuals from racial/ethnic groups and cultural backgrounds historically under-represented within the nursing community, including but not limited to, men, persons of color, individuals with disabilities, and those educationally and/or socio-economically disadvantaged.

Scholarship Opportunities

Opportunity at Iowa Scholarships are awarded to entering U.S. freshmen with superior academic talent who are African-American, Latino, American Indian, or Alaskan Native. Students must rank in the upper 30 percent of their high school graduating class and present an ACT composite of 25 or above (SAT of 1020 or above). Scholarships are renewable for a total of four years or the receipt of a bachelor's degree, whichever occurs first, subject to meeting appropriate GPA and enrollment requirements. The award is $5,000 per year.

UI College of Nursing also offers a full tuition gerontology scholarship plus stipend for underrepresented minorities and men.

Iowa Minority Academic Grants for Economic Success Program (IMAGES) IMAGES is a program funded by the State of Iowa to provide grants for resident, minority undergraduates. The grants are based on financial need, and recipients must earn 24 hours per year with at least a 2.0 GPA to be eligible for renewal. The FAFSA determines financial need.
