Education:
MSN, University of Iowa College of Nursing

BSN, University of Iowa College of Nursing

Advisor:  Ann Marie McCarthy, PhD, RN, FAAN

Cognate Area:  Informatics

Emphasis:  Application of informatics to school nursing

Research Focus:

My areas of research interest relate to the roles of school nurses.  My dissertation, "School Nursing Documentation: Knowledge, Attitude, and Barriers to Using Standardized Nursing Languages and Current Documentation Practices" measured how school nurses document and how much they know about NANDA, NIC, NOC with the long-term goal of helping school nurses transition to the use of standardized nursing languages and ultimately for school nurses to be a part of electronic health records. I also have a strong interest in youth mental health assessment and interventions provided by school nurses. I see many opportunities for school nurses to be involved in a more effective and efficient healthcare system. To that end, it is essential that school nurses accurately document the nursing care they provide so further intervention effectiveness and outcome research can be conducted.
