The College of Nursing Scholarly Interest Groups (SIGs) are comprised of faculty, students and staff who meet monthly and share an interest in a specific area of research. Group meetings are facilitated by the Office for Nursing Research. Formats vary and include journal discussions, writing critique, and proposal development. All are welcome to attend. Descriptions of the SIGs and meeting times are included below along with the current month's schedule.

• Pain Journal Club

Facilitated by Keela Herr and Ann Marie McCarthy, this group will meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 3:00 p.m. to  4:00 p.m. to discuss current research and/or best practice articles on pain and its associated symptoms. For more information, please contact ann-mccarthy@uiowa.edu [1].

• Social Network Analysis

Facilitated by Anne Ersig, this group focuses on research investigating the role of social networks on heath and behavior. Meetings take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information, please contact anne-ersig@uiowa.edu [2].

• Writing Group

Facilitated by Martha Craft-Rosenberg, this group of faculty and postdocs meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month  from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and also 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to conduct peer reviews of current writing projects. • Genetic Nursing Journal Club

  Facilitated by Sandra Daack-Hirsch, this group meets three to four times each semester to discuss articles and topics related to genetic research and nursing practice. • Implementation Science

Facilitated by Sharon Tucker, this group meets monthly to discuss strategies for implementing best practices and for conducting implementation science research. • Qualitative and Mixed Methods

Faciliated by Lioness Ayres, the emphasis for this group will be on writing, especially manuscripts and grant proposals, although we will also read some methods and some especially provocative publications. This group is open to students and faculty, but we are asking students not to attend unless they have already completed a doctoral level qualitative methods course.  Meetings take place the 4th Monday of each month, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in room 437 CNB. • Developing Scholars Group

This group (previously called the Postdoc Peer Group) discusses career development issues and trades feedback on ongoing research projects, manuscripts and proposals in progress. 2-hour meetings are held twice a month. The first meetings of each month take place on the same week as the CON Research Forum (scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month—see http://www.nursing.uiowa.edu/research/events [9] for Research Forum dates). The second meeting of the month takes place two weeks after the first meeting. The group meets from 1-3 PM in 437 CNB.   Organized through the Pain T32 in the College of Medicine, this group discusses topic that are more heavily focused on basic science, but also include research on humans as well.
