On March 10, 2012, funded by the IASP Developing Countries Pain Education Project, Keela Herr, PhD, RN, AGSF, FAAN, Professor & Associate Dean for Faculty, from The University of Iowa College of Nursing, gave lectures at Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China. This was the follow-up lecture for the IASP project, a geriatric pain education program for Chinese primary health care providers, organized by Li Li, MSN, RN. Dr. Herr presented on pain and aging: challenges, assessment and management best practices. |
The trainees of the IASP project who finished a day and a half of lectures last December, as well as the doctors and nurses form the hospital, attended this half-day lecture.
After sharing her expertise in geriatric pain, there were good discussions between Dr. Herr and the attendees.
Dr. Herr has been the visiting professor of Southern Medical University since 2005. She has visited China three times and each time she presented on pain related topics to assist nurses and other health care professionals to improve assessment and management of pain in elders. This IASP project was one of the collaborative results with her great help and guidance.
