Veronica Brighton received her BSN and a MA in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of Iowa. She is Certified as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and holds an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license. She worked for the early part of her career in critical care nursing including intensive care, coronary care and emergency room. Since receiving her MA, she has worked in inpatient, outpatient and private practice psychiatric mental health nursing. She has taught for about twenty years. Currently she teaches Health Assessment Across the Lifespan and Communications for Health Professionals in the Undergraduate Program and Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing with Families and Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing with Groups in the Graduate Program at the College of Nursing. She maintains a private practice doing individual and group psychotherapy. Her clinical and research interests include stress management, anxiety disorders/PTSD, depression and psychological/cognitive nursing outcomes. She is a member of the Iowa Outcomes Project research team and has developed a number of psychiatric mental-health outcomes for the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC). In addition, she is Past-President of the Iowa Psychiatric Nurses Association and she has previously served as Treasurer and as a Board Member.
