Marianne Smith, PhD, RN, assistant professor at UI’s College of Nursing, is the Education Director for the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence.

Dr. Smith is the PI for a five-year R01 grant called “Improving Mood in Assisted Living Settings Using a Cognitive Training Intervention” that is being conducted in collaboration with Drs. Fredric Wolinsky (CoPH), Specht and Buckwalter (CON) and Linda Seydel from the Iowa Geriatric Education Center (IGEC).

Dr. Smith is also funded by the IGEC for their HRSA grant, and by Ryan Carnahan’s AHRQ grant, IA-ADAPT: Improving Antipsychotic Appropriateness in Dementia Patients.

She also serves on the IGEC Executive Advisory Panel.
