WASHINGTON – Many of the World War II veterans who recently took part in South Dakota Honor Flight #11 required some assistance in order to visit the Washington, D.C. memorial built in their honor.
Dozens of volunteers, including twins June Gratz Schnieder and Joan Gratz – both University of Iowa College of Nursing alumni – were among those helping the veterans on this special journey.
KELOLAND.com, part of KELOLAND TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, recently posted a feature on the volunteer efforts of the twins, who viewed this as much more than just another trip to our nation’s capital.
June, who graduate with a Masters degree in Nursing Administration ('69), lives in Sioux Falls, SD; Joan also received a Masters in Nursing Administration ('70), and resides in Omaha, NE.
The KELO-TV article and video report featuring their April Honor Flight/D.C. visit can be found here [1].
