Home > Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program

In response to the need for consistent, sensitive treatment of sexual assault victims, the University of Iowa College of Nursing, along with community partners, developed the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training program more than 10 years ago.

Workshops to train nurses as SANEs are held once or twice a year, depending on demand. The course is taught by experts from Iowa in the disciplines of nursing, law enforcement, advocacy and law. In addition, Dr. Linda Ledray, a nationally recognized leader and pioneer in the field, provides a section of the SANE/SART curriculum. The training is comprehensive and follows the IAFN (International Association of Forensic Nursing) guidelines for SANE training.

Upcoming Training:

January 4-6, 19-20
Polk County River Place
Des Moines, Iowa
