Genetic Link to Anesthetic Ineffectiveness Found

 
Researchers at The University of Iowa College of Nursing have identified an association between a gene variant and increased sensitivity to pain in some children, which may influence the effectiveness of topical anesthetics. Charmaine Kleiber, PhD, associate professor, and Debra Schutte, PhD, assistant professor, are the lead authors on a paper to be published in an upcoming issue of The Journal of Pain.

Nursing Clinical Education Awards Honor Leaders

 
College of Nursing MSN students were among those honored Nov. 28, 2006 at a ceremony for the Nursing Clinical Education Awards held at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Maas Honored by Gerontological Society of America

 
Meridean Maas, PhD, RN, FAAN, University of Iowa College of Nursing professor emerita and co-director of the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, has earned the prestigious Doris Schwartz Gerontological Nursing Research Award from the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) in recognition of outstanding and sustained contribution to geriatric nursing research.
