| AACN/Robert Wood Johnson Scholarship recipients announced |
The UI College of Nursing has announced the eight inaugural recipients of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) /American Association of Colleges of Nursing New Careers in Nursing Scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to entry-level second degree students enrolled in accelerated nursing programs for the 2009 academic year.
The 2009 recipients are: Ruth Bustos from Kalona, Iowa Joshua Curphy from Tiffin, Iowa Ernestine Mambo from Coon Rapids, Minnesota Candace Peterson from Evergreen Park, Illinois Brian Steil from Mason City, Iowa Neupane Sumnima from Iowa City, Iowa K. Salek Walker from Iowa City, Iowa Lia Yoon from Johnston, Iowa The focus of this program is to provide support to students from groups underrepresented in nursing or from disadvantaged backgrounds to help address the nation's nursing shortage. Recipients will be recognized as UI College of Nursing Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholars and will be groomed for future leadership roles in nursing. Recognized leaders in nursing and the community will be identified as mentors for each RWJF Scholar, assisting with professional development and community engagement needs.
