| Culp presented with Iowa Nurses Association Hector Perez Award |
Dr. Ken Culp, PhD, RN, FAAN was presented with the Iowa Nurses Association Hector Perez Award at its annual convention on October 27, 2008 in Coralville. The Hector Perez Award is presented to an Iowa Registered Nurse who is a member of the Iowa Nurses Association and has made a significant contribution to nursing in a clinical setting as a member of a minority group in this profession.
Culp was selected for his strong history of research in Occupational Health and Safety and in Gerontology. He is an author and co-author of over 30 articles and book chapters related to these topics. Hector Perez, RN, ARNP (1953-2001) represented the role of men in nursing and demonstrated a commitment to improve methods in nursing to address the varied cultural needs of patients and members of the profession. Perez was born in Puerto Rico, received his Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from the University of Texas Science Center, San Antonio, Texas and a Master of Science Nursing degree from Clarkson College Omaha, Nebraska. He was employed at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa as an intensive care nurse and as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the emergency room until retiring in October 1999 due to health reasons. He assisted with cultural diversity teaching in the hospital, school of nursing and community, and had a commitment to the Iowa Nurses Association. |
