Civic Engagement Fair 2007

UI College of Nursing students showcased an array of presentations on individual and group community service projects at the 2007 Civic Engagement Fair, May 2, the atrium of the UI Medical Education and Research Facility.

Exhibits reflect the work of students in Assistant Professor (clinical) Susan Lehmann's Public Health Practicum related to population interventions in sites across southeast Iowa. Students of Assistant Professors (clinical) Nicki Markovetz and Vanessa Kimm's Parent-Child Practicum were also featured. Their booths had been displayed at a health fair at the Broadway Neighborhood Center earlier in year as part of a year-long program to educate the populace on the prevention of childhood obesity.

Hillary Recker, "The Healthy Me Club", developed a program (as well as cosume and curriculum) to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors in schools to reduce obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Shelley Elphic, promoted activity enhancement among Rockwell Collins Employees, using the AHA Start Program.
Laurie Bailey and Tacie Snyder discussed their project on “Risk for Uncontrolled Diabetes in Underserved of Linn County.” Marina Aldrich and Amy Winkler engaged in HIV Outreach and Testing at The University of Iowa Gay Prom.
Alison Rehmke and Elise Heying studied "Cardiovascular Risk among Rural Elder" Iowans in Victor, Iowa. Sinead Sauer presented ways to create a 10,000 steps walking program. (Not pictured: Lindsay Larson, Ashley Pieper)
