Recent Grad to Provide CON Representation on UI’s Alumni Board

Adelaide “Addy” Caprio (BSN ’06) has been selected to serve as the College of Nursing’s representative on the University of Iowa Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. 

“Representing the CON is an honor,” said Caprio. “I have a sense of finally being able to give back to the CON and to UI after all that they have given me. The personal and professional ties I have with the university will only strengthen and grow with this opportunity.”

“She is intelligent, passionate, spirited, and engaging,” described Rita Frantz, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean and professor at UI’s College of Nursing. “Very early on in her collegiate career Mrs. Caprio indicated that following graduation she wanted to assist the College of Nursing in a substantial way. I am so excited that she is interested in participating with the University of Iowa Alumni Association as a board member.”

Caprio describes her educational experience at UI as solid, exciting and challenging … but also fun.

“My classes provided a wealth of theoretical knowledge. Through classroom and clinical experiences, I learned the foundation of excellent nursing care. I feel privileged and lucky that UI has such an amazing nursing program.” 

Originally from Porto Alegre, Brazil, Caprio moved to Iowa City in 1996. She currently lives in Chicago, IL, where she works in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rush University Medical Center.

Caprio has also thought about traveling abroad to underserved countries to help nurses learn more about the NICU world and how to properly care for infants. She recently completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree and is contemplating a DNP program.

“I aspire to be a great Clinical Nurse Specialist. I love mentoring younger minds and I hope to continue working with undergraduate students and new nurses as they too embark in the journey of nursing.”
