Mary Berg, DNP, RN, ARNP, Associate Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing was recently named Nurse Practitioner of the Year by the Iowa Association of Nurse Practitioners (IANP).

This award is presented each year at the Spring Nurse Practitioner Conference to one IANP member who has made “substantial contributions to IANP and to their profession.”

Mary BergDr. Berg was nominated for her ability to provide leadership during her presidency of the statewide association, her involvement in the community, and her professionalism at the national level.

“Her leadership skills are not only found in an organizational context, but also in a clinical context,” noted Natalie Van Waning, a pediatric nurse practitioner at UIHC who nominated Berg. “She continues to clinically work with children through a local school-based primary care clinic in Iowa City. She also helps prepare future PNP students for their role as DNPs by teaching, setting up preceptors, and giving them many opportunities to become active members in our organization.”

Dr. Berg was formally presented with the award at last week’s Nurse Practitioner Conference in Coralville.
