What is JCSART?
The Johnson County Sexual Assault Response Team (JCSART) is a coalition
of sexual assault nurse examiners, rape victim advocates, law enforcement
officers, emergency room staff and prosecuting attorneys developed to
coordinate the community's response to sexual assault. The goal of JCSART
is to meet the needs of assault survivors as they progress through the
health care and criminal justice systems. JCSART has been serving the
Johnson County community since 2000.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
- Registered nurses with special training
to assist rape victims
- On call 24 hours a day, seven days
a week
- Provide immediate, compassionate,
culturally-sensitive health care
- Collect medical evidence that will assist in prosecuting the
assailant

Rape Victim Advocacy Program
- Staffs 24-Hour Rape Crisis Line
- Provides advocacy, support and information to victims/survivors
and their family and friends
- Present throughout the medical and legal process following
an assault, fulfilling the victim's legal right to an advocate
- Offers support to victims through the healing process

Law Enforcement Officers
- Safeguard victims from further
harm after the assault
- Investigate the crime and
collect evidence
- Collect statements from victims and witnesses
- Assist county attorneys in
prosecuting the crime

Emergency Room Staff
- Assist Sexual Assault Nurse
Examiners in providing treatment
to victims
- Provide additional medical
treatment if necessary

Johnson County Attorneys Office
- Prosecutes sexual assault cases to protectthe community;
sexual assault is a crime against the state
- Assists victims as cases proceed
through the criminal justice system
- Represents victims in court
