Beverly Saboe, RN, MN
Ms. Saboe teaches community health nursing. She also is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Developmental Disabilities at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She is the Nursing Training Director for the Iowa Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (ILEND) Project at University Hospital School.
She received a BSN from The University of Iowa. She received an MN in Maternal-Child Nursing from the University of Washington, with a focus on the effects of chronic health problems in children on family relationships, including child rearing, ethnic diversity, family mental health, and loss and death.
Ms. Saboe has worked as a staff nurse in obstetrics, including labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn nursery, and as a public health nurse, including well child clinics and schools. She has been a clinical practicum instructor in postpartum and newborn nursery and in public health nursing. She has been a nurse volunteer in a health clinic for migrant workers. She has provided instruction for public health nurses in the state of Iowa through a contract with the Iowa State Department of Health and provided instruction for the Home Health Visitor and Resource Mother's Training programs for the Iowa Healthy Families Prenatal to Preschool Program.
In the Child Development Clinic, she has been a nurse member of an interdisciplinary diagnostic team serving families and children with learning, developmental, and behavioral problems and child protective concerns. She has served as the nurse coordinator for the Iowa State Newborn Screening Program and was responsible for data collection for Iowa participation in the National Collaborative Study of Children Treated with Phenylketonuria. She has facilitated family support activities for children and adults with metabolic disorders, such as phenylketonuria, and also for Williams syndrome. She has provided nursing assessment for the Focused Family Assessment portion of the Forensic Pediatric Service and nursing consultation regarding child/adult abuse.
