Rene' Martin, PhD, MA, BSN

Dr. Rene Martin is a nurse - health psychologist who joined the Adult and Gerontology faculty in 2003. Her program of research investigates how lay people make decisions regarding symptom self-management and seeking health care. She has been the principal investigator of projects sponsored by the American Heart Association and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NIH) that evaluated how gender, stereotypes, and social influence processes influenced treatment delay behavior among people suffering symptoms of acute myocardial infarction.

Dr. Martin received her BSN from the University of Iowa in 1982 and worked as a Staff Nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics until 1991. She received her MA and PhD in psychology from the University of Iowa in 1993 and 1996, respectively. Dr. Martin was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Iowa Center on Aging for two years and then worked as an Assistant Research Scientist in the University of Iowa Department of Psychology until joining the College of Nursing faculty. Dr. Martin currently serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including Health Psychology, Annals of Behavioral Medicine, and Psychological Bulletin.
