Faculty

Carol Linda Dannan Caldwell, is a Lecturer at The University of Iowa College of Nursing. She is a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College and earned her MS in Nursing at Syracuse University College of Nursing. She holds Board Certification as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and holds an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license in the state of Iowa.

Caldwell began her career as a psychiatric staff nurse at Menninger in Topeka, KS. Her patient care experiences include charge nurse, evening supervisor, and nurse manager of inpatient and outpatient units. Teaching experiences include clinical and classroom instruction and serving as course coordinator in several community college/Associate degree settings; clinical and classroom instruction at the Bachelor's level; serving as a graduate assistant in a Master's level classroom.

Caldwell has experience in team teaching and use of multimedia presentation. In addition, from 1999-2004 she maintained a private practice in psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.

Caldwell is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and Iowa Chapter APNA, Sigma Theta Tau Omicron Chapter and the Alliance of Midlevel Practitioners in the Quad Cities. She is a member of the psychiatric-mental health outcomes group for the Nursing Outcomes Project research team that developed a number of psychiatric-mental health outcomes for the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC).

Current and recent research interests include the work of Hildegard E. Peplau, specifically pattern integration and anxiety; autonomy; and transition from student to professional in nursing.
