Titler, M., Dochterman, J., Picone, D. M., Everett, L., Xie, X., Kanak, M. & Fei, Q. ( 2005). "Cost of hospital care for elderly at risk of falling," Nursing Economics, Nov-Dec. Vol 23 (6), 290-306.

Brief Summary: Using the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) data captured in an electronic documentation system, the authors analyzed the effects of staffing, and medical, pharmacy and nursing treatments on overall hospital cost. For each 20 percent decline in staffing below average, the median cost of care increased by over $1,178. The nursing interventions of fall prevention, pressure ulcer care, teaching, health screening, and medication management were associated with less cost if done more often. The research controls for multiple variables including several patient characteristics, severity of illness, and comorbidity.

Now available

The 2nd edition of NANDA, NOC, and NIC linkages: Nursing diagnoses, outcomes, & interventions is now available. The second edition has a title change to reflect the focus of the book. The publication links the NANDA diagnoses to the NOC outcome labels and three levels of interventions in user friendly tables that quickly identifies which are diagnoses, outcomes and interventions. The Linkage book provides the current definitions for the labels of all three standardized nursing languages. A number of case studies are included to illustrate the use of the languages in clinical practice and educational settings.
