Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in the Older Adult: Interventions and Recommendations (New York: Springer Publishing Company, Inc., 2001) is the fourth volume in Springer's Advances in Gerontological Nursing series. The book's preface notes the recent emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention-as opposed to treatment and cure of illnesses-in national policy and outlines the need to develop successful health promotion interventions for older adults.

Drawn from a University of Iowa conference on health promotion across the adult life cycle, the book's 13 chapters address nutrition, exercise, arthritis self-management, fall and cancer prevention, premature coronary heart disease and other topics. Contributing authors include nationally known experts in the fields they represent.

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in the Older Adult is edited by Elizabeth A. Swanson, Ph.D., R.N., Associate Professor and Director of External Relations at the University of Iowa College of Nursing; Toni Tripp-Reimer, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and Director of the Gerontological Nursing Interventions Research Center; and Kathleen C. Buckwalter, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., Professor of Nursing and Associate Provost for Health Sciences at the University of Iowa.
