Janet Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, has a funded program of research on the psychosocial aspects of genetic testing. She is the Principal Investigator on a NINR funded R01, Family Health After Predictive HD Testing, R01 NR07970-01, 2001-2005. She is also the Co-Principal Investigator of a R25 ELSI funded project, Nursing CD-ROM on Ethical Issues of Genetic Testing, 1 R25 HG02074-01, 2000-2003. She is the co-director of the institutional T32 Postdoctoral Training in Clinical Genetics Research 1T32NR07110, 2006-2011.
Trudy Burns, PhD, Professor, College of Public Health, has a funded program of research that is focused on the genetic epidemiology of cardiovascular risk factors and measures of early manifestations of the atherosclerotic process in children, adolescents and young adults. She is Principal Investigator of Arterial Endothelial Function: An Epidemiologic Study and Co-PI of CT Vascular Calcium: An Epidemiologic Study in the Young, both funded by the NHLBI. Each of these research projects is being conducted as part of the Muscatine Study, which was initiated in 1970. Dr. Burns is a co-director of the institutional T32 Postdoctoral Training in Clinical Genetics Research.
Toni Tripp-Reimer, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Associate Dean for Nursing Research, Development and Utilization at the College of Nursing and Director of the Gerontological Nursing Interventions Research Center. In these roles, Dr. Tripp-Reimer has played an instrumental role in facilitating the growth of the nursing research and education programs at The University of Iowa with nearly 25 years of funded research. Research foci include ethnicity and health behaviors, ethnogerontology, self-care, chronic illness and qualitative methods. She is currently the PI of acute confusion assessment and management funded by the Iowa-VA research consortium. And co-editor of Advances in Gerontological Nursing.
Ann Marie McCarthy, PhD, RN, PNP, FAAN, Professor and Chair of the Parent Child and Family Area of Study, College of Nursing, has a funded program of research on cognitive-behavioral interventions for children undergoing painful procedures. She is the Principal Investigator on a NINR funded R01, Predicting Children's Response to Distraction from Pain, 1 R01 NR05269-01A2, 2002-2006. This study includes genotyping of family members to identify genetic markers of pain and anxiety. Dr McCarthy is also a co-investigator on an NIH-funded grant on Glucose Sensors and Hypoglycemia in Children with Diabetes.
