‘MiN’ to Attend Marque Conference in San Francisco

The University of Iowa College of Nursing’s student organization, Men in Nursing (UI MiN), is sending six students to San Francisco to participate in the American Assembly for Men in Nursing’s (AAMN) annual convention.  

Themed “Men in Nursing: Partners and Leaders in Nursing’s Future,” this year’s conference will provide the opportunity to network with member nurses and other students from around the United States.

When Linda Upmeyer, RN, was elected Iowa State Representative from the 12th District in 2002, she was the lone healthcare provider in the State House or Senate.

There was nary a doctor or nurse, not so much as a pharmacist, to be found.

Dr. Ramey’s Research Highlighted by ICTS

The research of Assistant Professor Sandra Ramey, PhD, RN, which investigates the relationships among Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk factors and CVD morbidity in large law enforcements cohorts, has received considerable press in recent months.

The trend continues as a recent article published by the Institute for Clinical & Translational Science (ICTS) takes a closer look at how Dr. Ramey’s research looks to improve the health and well-being of law enforcement officers.

Former Dean to be Honored at Leadership Conference

University of Iowa College of Nursing Dean Emeritus Geraldene Felton will be honored at this year’s History Makers Gala and Iowa African American Women's Leadership Conference: "I Am My Sister's Keeper."

Geraldene “Gerry” Felton was Dean at the College of Nursing from 1981 to 1997. As is stated in the book, One Hundred Years of Nursing at Iowa, Dean Felton focused her efforts on the development of promising young faculty, and on the recruitment of new faculty with solid research credentials who could be mentors for others.

Recent Grad to Provide CON Representation on UI’s Alumni Board

Adelaide “Addy” Caprio (BSN ’06) has been selected to serve as the College of Nursing’s representative on the University of Iowa Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. 

“Representing the CON is an honor,” said Caprio. “I have a sense of finally being able to give back to the CON and to UI after all that they have given me. The personal and professional ties I have with the university will only strengthen and grow with this opportunity.”

Student Life: Q&A with a Rising ‘Star’

In only a few short weeks into the fall 2012 semester, the research of Staja Booker has been getting nationally noticed. It could even be said that Booker, a first-year student in the College of Nursing’s PhD program, has a bright future in front of her—so it’s fitting that she has been nicknamed “Star” nearly all of her life.
