Dr. Swanson to Receive Prestigious Award from INA

UI College of Nursing associate professor Elizabeth A. Swanson, PhD, RN, will be presented with the distinguished Teresa E. Christy Award at this year’s Iowa Nurses Association (INA) Convention, October 17, 2011.

This award is the highest nursing education accolade given on the state level by INA. 

With a theme of "leading nursing to all it can be," the Association’s annual convention will be held at the Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, October 16-18.

Jennie Chin Hansen, CEO of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), and former president of AARP, will provide the Woodrow Morris Lectureship during the 22nd Annual Long-Term Care Conference & Leadership Workshop, October 27.

Iowa AHEC Program receives $1.5 million grant to recruit, retain health care workforce

(Des Moines, IA) – Des Moines University and The University of Iowa are pleased to announce the receipt of a one-year grant award in the amount of $1.5 million to support the statewide Iowa Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program.

Renowned Alzheimer’s Awareness Advocate to Tour CON, Local Community Oct. 3 – 7

September is World Alzheimer's Month. On the heels of this global outreach and awareness campaign, the UI College of Nursing, the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, and Hills Bank have jointly sponsored a series of Iowa City-area speaking engagements by Richard Taylor, a retired psychologist and distinguished champion for individuals with early-stage and early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

CON Professor Recognized for Life’s Work

The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) recently announced five nurse leaders who will be honored as “Living Legends” for their extraordinary accomplishments and lifetime achievements. 

Among the list of distinguished nominees is UI College of Nursing’s Meridean Maas, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor emerita and co-director of the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence.
