John W. & Mabel Gottburg Schoen Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established by Mabel Schoen in 1997 in honor of her husband who died in 1995, and to recognize the colleges from which they graduated. Mabel Schoen earned bachelor's and graduate nurse degrees in liberal arts and nursing respectively from the University of Iowa in 1940. Her late husband, John W. Schoen received his BSC degree in commerce and science from the UI in 1938. He worked in sales and distribution for construction equipment firms in the Midwest and later became CEO and chairman of the board of directors for several distribution companies in New Mexico .

The Schoens' son, John E. Schoen of McGregor , Texas said, “My parents always had deep ties to the UI. The university provided them with an excellent education and life-long friends, and they wanted to help today's students have similar opportunities.”
