RN-BSN
Delivered largely online, this program is for associate degree and diploma-prepared RNs who are ready to expand their nursing skills and professional potential by earning the BSN.
Over the many years that we have been working with Registered Nurses, prospective students have found the transcript review to be an essential tool for planning. We have enjoyed working with students as they discover how much they have already accomplished as well as the exciting possibilities for personal and professional growth.
We hope this information is helpful and look forward to assisting you as you consider the best ways to meet your educational and career goals.

Prospective Students: Taking the Next Step
1. Provide transcripts for review
It is important to include all transcripts, including high school (particularly if you graduated 1991 or thereafter). The more complete the information you provide, the more specific our review can be. We do not need official transcripts for this initial review.
It may be to your advantage to have official transcripts sent, especially if you anticipate making application to the College of Nursing for the upcoming summer session. Be sure to also send a letter or email to the RN-BSN Office, with name and student ID number, letting us know that transcripts have been ordered, what schools you attended, and any previous names that may be on the transcripts.
Whether photocopies or official, always have transcripts sent to the RN-BSN Program Office, 37 Nursing Bldg, The University of Iowa, Iowa City IA 52242.
2. Develop an individual plan of study
Once you have received the transcript review worksheet, contact the RN-BSN Program Office (1-800-272-6430, ext 7020) or the local faculty coordinator in your area, to arrange a time to meet (in person, by email, or by phone) to develop an individual plan of study and answer specific questions.
The individual plan will serve as a guide, so be sure to keep it with the original review worksheet and the information detailing where you will likely take the courses listed on your plan (Community College transfer guide, GIS handout and online catalog web address, information about the UI's flexible study options, etc).
3. Get wired!
Look over the computer competency expectations handout. Don't despair if you don't feel completely "up to speed," but do check around in your workplace for training opportunities or contact the local community college for a schedule of credit courses. (See the Business/Management Supporting area of the community college transfer guide for specific course names and catalog numbers.)
Join the RN-BSN Listserve, an important connection to the RN-BSN program, even prior to admission to the major. This will give you a "window" on the kinds of information provided to students during the nursing major and is the only source for early information about nursing electives being offered each semester.
4. Apply
The deadline is January 15 for summer admission. If your preliminary review and individual plan of study suggest that you might be ready to begin the nursing major as early as next summer, apply now. You can mark that off your list and we will be able to better anticipate the needs in your area.
The College of Nursing is committed to maintaining access to the RN-BSN Program in selected centers around the state, assuming that there are sufficient applicants.
