RN-BSN

Admission

Eligibility

Minimum application requirements beyond the ADN or Diploma: Composition II, statistics, and at least two of the three required supporting courses. Minimum cumulative grade point average is 2.5. Students whose grade point average falls below the 2.5 may petition to be considered conditionally and are strongly encouraged to contact the RN-BSN Program Office to discuss documentation that will be helpful in demonstrating readiness for baccalaureate study.

Application Guidelines

  • Complete the Transfer Student Application online at www.uiowa.edu/admissions
  • Be sure to enter the major code 96N on the application.
  • The application deadline for 96N (RN-BSN students) is January 15 .
  • Official transcripts from all schools attended must be sent to

RN-BSN Program Office
37 Nursing Building
The University of Iowa
Iowa City IA 52242

  • A dated photocopy is kept and the original official transcript is forwarded to the Office of Admissions, where it becomes a part of the application file.
  • It is important to note that an official transcript is sent from one school to another and can be transmitted by the student only in a sealed envelope , with the Registrar seal unbroken.
  • Also, the official transcript serves to validate grades and hours earned only at that school . For example, hospital diploma programs routinely list courses from schools providing prerequisite courses for their graduates. However, official transcripts from both schools are required for admission.

International Admissions

Well before the January 15 deadline, students with credit from schools outside the US should contact the Office of International Admissions regarding transferability of this credit.

Students should also contact the RN-BSN Program Office at the College of Nursing for advising and support.

IMPORTANT: Due to the online format of the nursing major year, international students on a student visa may be unable to meet requirements for SEVIS compliance, under current regulations.

Financial Aid and Summer Admission

  • If you anticipate applying for scholarships where financial need is an eligibility requirement, you must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Although summer session is the start of the nursing major year, it is the END of the financial aid year. There is a separate application for summer financial aid. Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid early in January to request the summer aid application.
