Early Admission

Beginning in the Fall Semester of 1998, the College of Nursing admitted its first group of highly qualified first year students directly into the College. Although most students must wait for admission until they have satisfactorily completed a set of prerequisite courses, students in the Early Admission Program are admitted and enrolled in the College of Nursing at The University of Iowa upon acceptance of the admission offer from the University.

Early admission status will be offered to students who have:


1. Minimum 28 ACT Composite score, and

2. Minimum 3.8 or higher GPA, and

3. Minimum 25 ACT Science Reasoning Score, and

4. No deficiencies in the minimum high school course requirements:

  • 4 years of English
  • 3 years of mathematics, including algebra I, algebra II, and    geometry
  • 3 years of science, which must include one full-year course in biology, one full-year course in chemistry and at least one semester of physics
  • 3 years of social studies
  • 2 years of the same foreign language

The benefits of the Early Admission program are:

  • Admission to the College of Nursing from day one of your first year at The University of Iowa.
  • Eligibility for a scholarship for first-year nursing students
  • The opportunity to compete for regular scholarships in the College of Nursing during remaining years.
Application Deadline: Same as the established deadline for The University.
