Young Community Nurse Clinician Program
The UI College of Nursing Community Nurse Clinician (CNC) Program is a competitive and selective mentored program for undergraduate nursing students who wish to pursue careers in public and community health nursing. Students are selected based on their academic record, faculty endorsement, interest in vulnerable populations, and career goals.
What will be expected of me as a Community Health Nurse Clinician?
• Participate in public health experiences (averaging 1-2 hrs/week), under the direction of a faculty mentor and expert clinician(s), that promote development of public health leadership and your career goals.
• Meet regularly with a faculty mentor to discuss your progress. Submit a written report as requested.
• Complete a project under the direction of the faculty mentor and/or expert clinician on a topic related to public health nursing practice that results in a tangible product.
• Develop and present a poster related to the project at a College of Nursing and/or other professional event.
• Participate in an interdisciplinary presentation at least annually with written summary of presentation.
• Attend a Community Health Conference.

Option to receive up to 3 semester hours Independent Study or Honors Independent Study credit (if qualified)

and professional goals.
How do I apply?
• The application consists of the following items:
• Completion of Public Health Nursing Practicum, or equivalent; consideration will be given to currently enrolled students with a strong career interest in public health.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, good academic standing.
• Signed Academic Release Form.
• Goal statement (no longer than 1 page, 12 point font, single spaced) describing your professional goals as they relate to public health nursing.
• Two (2) endorsements from faculty (including Public Health Nursing Practicum faculty) or other health care professionals, confirming your potential for a successful career and clinical leadership in public health nursing.
