PhD - Focal Area: Nursing in Aging

Purpose: The goal of gerontologic nursing is to promote independent function and enhance the quality of life of older persons. The study of gerontological nursing at the doctoral level is intended to advance the science of nursing.

  1. through the conduct and evaluation of research regarding
    a. provision of services for the prevention and treatment of disease and functional disability
    b. promotion of safe, healthful physical, psychological, and social behaviors and environments;
  2. by dissemination of research information to educate and inform the public; and
  3. by providing guidance for development of legislative and regulatory measures.
