Nurse Educator (Basic)

This clinical focus will provide you with opportunities to learn about the roles and responsibilities associated with being a Nurse Educator - from development/revision of curriculum to facilitating student learning in the classroom, online, in the laboratory and in the clinical environment. Round out your plan of study by working with your advisor to identify selective courses that will provide you with the skill set to function in this role.

Genetics Nursing
Learn to provide nursing care to individuals, families, and communities with known genetic conditions and/or birth defects. Prepare for careers in pediatric metabolic clinics, genetic counseling programs, familial cancer assessment and management teams, public health departments, private genetics testing labs, prenatal care programs, and specialty clinics.
38-40 semester hours
540 clinical practicum hours for non-NP students, 360 clinical practicum hours when combined with NP program

Nursing Systems Administration
Iowa offers the best Nursing Systems Administration program in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. This option is for the nurse preparing for a career in nursing administartion, and/or other areas of care of case management in health systems, this program provides greater depth of knowledge in leadership, management, and systems administration.

Occupational Health Nursing
Focus is on providing nursing care in the work place. In cooperation with the College of Public Health, students will learn about industrial hygiene, safety policy and regulation, hazard and safety assessment, toxicology, ergonomics, and the clinical management of occupational illnesses. Specialized courses specific to case management, injury prevention, and agricultural health.
This program offers funding for students – tuition paid (for part- and full-time students) and monthly stipend (for full-time students). 100% of Occ Health Nursing students receive financial support. Most receive 100% tuition paid and full-time students are eligible for a monthly stipend.
