MSN - Clinical Nurse Leader

PREREQUISITE INFORMATION

In order to be considered for admission to the MSN - Clinical Nurse Leader program, the student must have completed courses in the following prerequisite areas, attaining a grade of C or above:

  • General Psychology (equivalent to 031:001 General Psychology at Iowa)
  • Biology (equivalent to 002:002 at Iowa)**
  • General Chemistry (equivalent to 004:007 at Iowa)**
  • Anatomy (equivalent to 060:110 at Iowa)**
  • Microbiology (equivalent to 061:164 or 061:157 at Iowa; completed within 10 years of the start of the program)**
  • Statistics (minimum of 7P:143, 171:161 or equivalent to 22S:101 at Iowa - must be completed within five years of starting the program)
  • Epidemiology (equivalent to 173:140)
  • Pathophysiology (096:115 at Iowa) prerequisites must be successfully completed before enrollment.**

** Please note that Animal Biology (002:002), General Chemistry (004:007), Microbiology (061:164) and Anatomy (060:110) must be successfully completed prior to enrollment in 096:115 Pathophysiology, that will be taken by students admitted to the program in the fall prior to starting the program in the spring.  All prerequisite courses must be successfully completed with a grade of 'C' or above prior to the start of the program.

Prerequisite courses, if taken at the University of Iowa, are generally taken as an undergraduate, non-degree seeking nursing interest status.  Pathophysiology and Epidemiology can be taken for graduate credit in the event that you may be pursuing another program that would require them to be completed at the graduate level but otherwise not recommended.
