DNP - Doctor of Nursing Practice

BSN/DNP and Post-ARNP/DNP now available.

Iowa's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is a clinical doctorate which prepares nurses for leadership roles in an advanced clinical specialty with immersion in public policy and advocacy, specialty systems, change theory, economics and finance.

The time is now
Advanced practice nurses today enjoy increasing practice authority and accountability. The DNP degree will prepare advanced practice nurses with the skill set to make meaningful decisions within their practice and contributions at the business and policy-making table.

Just as doctorate degree titles in other fields designate the advanced education and abilities of its members, the Doctor of Nursing Practice title identifies those with the skills and knowledge to assume the highest level of clinical interaction with patients.

Iowa's DNP program, taught by national leaders in clinical education and evidence-based practice, includes practicum experiences as well as curriculum with clinical specialization in the following specialties:

  • Adult/Gero Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Anesthesia
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

DNP completion is available for MSN-prepared advanced practice nurses.

More about the DNP degree
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing requires that by 2015 all nurse practitioners entering advance practice be prepared at the doctorate level. Learn more about the emerging role of the DNP check these links:
