MSN:CNL - Admissions Information

Deadline for application is October 1, of each year. 

Admissions & Application

The program will begin each Fall. Admission is competitive. Students must meet the following requirements to be considered for admission to the MSN-Clinical Nurse Leader program:

  • Completed Graduate College application form and fee
  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree in Nursing and approximately two years experience
  • A minimum of a 3.0 grade point average
  • Complete supplemental application
  • Current nursing license
  • Provide a current resume/portfolio
  • Computer literate
  • Provide three completed recommendation forms
  • Completion of pre-requisite courses by the start of the program   

An upper-level statistics course needs to be completed within five (5) years of the application deadline. Acceptable University of Iowa courses are as follows: 22S:101 (STAT:3510), 07P:143 (PSQF:5143) 22S:102 (STAT:5543), or 171:161 (BIOS:5110). Equivalent courses from other colleges will be accepted as well. Please use the Transfer Courses section of ISIS to find equivalents (http://isis6.uiowa.edu/isis/courses/search.page)

We review all applicants as a cohort and do not admit on a rolling basis. 

Requirements for International Students
 

Due to the level of Internet-based course work required, international students in this program of study are not eligible for F-1 or J-1 student immigration status. Questions regarding visas and immigration documentation should be addressed to International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) via email at isss@uiowa.edu.

 MSN-CNL Application Requirements

TO GRADUATE ADMISSIONS:

Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Graduate from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited nursing program

  1. Completed Graduate College application form and fee
  2. Submit complete official transcripts for work done in all undergraduate   and graduate schools
  3. International students please refer to the information above specific to you and submit accordingly.

Graduate College Admissions Application must be received prior to the College of Nursing deadline (October 1) in order to be considered for admission in the following fall semester. Send these materials to the Office of Admissions, The University of Iowa, 107 Calvin Hall, Iowa City, IA 52242-1396. The application can be submitted electronically or a hard copy may be requested via their website.

TO THE COLLEGE OF NURSING

  1. Goal statement
  2. Course Completion form
  3. Supplemental Information form
  4. Transcripts (we will accept unofficial or student copies.)
  5. Resume
  6. Copy of RN license
  7. Three professional recommendations (U Iowa recommendation forms required) Recommendation to be sent electronically by appraiser to nursing-graduateprogram@uiowa.edu or via hard copy in sealed business-sized envelope with appraiser's signature across the flap.
