Welcome
In a client-centered health care system, nurses are at the very core, as advocates and coordinators, charged with understanding and assisting patients, families and communities. Iowa faculty contend that the role of professional nursing is to anticipate the needs and identify the desires of clients and then translate them into an evidence-based plan of care that helps individuals and communities to engage in self-care and decision-making.
This requires not only expertise in managing major clinical conditions and health problems, but an understanding of how systems work, an outcomes orientation, a respect for evidence in practice, facility with information management, fiscal stewardship, communication technology, organizational leadership and a commitment to social justice as an enduring nursing value.
At Iowa we are committed to preparing those future nurse leaders with the courage, the creativity, the passion and the will to use their skills and knowledge to improve the health of individuals and communities.
Welcome to nursing at Iowa.
